The Dolphin pub on South Street has made the decision to close until next year due to the restrictions that Covid places on the business.

In a post on the pub’s Facebook page, owner Rachel Ainsley said, “Yet another post I never thought I’d be composing but it seems as with everything this year has thrown at us we are getting used to it. Regrettably we have decided not to reopen until the new year.

“The Dolphin has always been a friendly, cosy and safe pub where groups can get together, a country pub in a town centre if you will. The current regulations make this an impossible situation for an intimate pub to operate in. We can only hope that 2021 brings better times for everyone!

“We will use the next two weeks to continue to improve the pub and keep improving the standards. We are looking forward to reopening in January.

“Myself and the team would like to thank you all so much for your support throughout the lockdowns, reopenings and navigating the ever-changing rules this year. The support means so much to all of us. Wishing you all a very healthy and happy Christmas and New Year.”
