Company plays host to students interested in manufacturing

Staff at Pentagon Plastics, an injection moulding firm based in Blatchford Road, gave a presentation to students on their manufacturing cycle, taking them around the working factory, and showing them all the elements of the business in action.

Gabby Day, business development co-ordinator for Pentagon, said the trip had come at a perfect time for them as the company was looking for ways to engage with students about career opportunities in the UK manufacturing industry.

Paul Edwards, managing director of Pentagon Plastics said: “Our whole team pulled together and worked hard to make sure that we had all the necessary seating, refreshments and equipment that we required and they laid out an excellent display of products, tooling and drawings to show how we operate.

“The focus of the day from our perspective was to highlight the full manufacturing process from design to finished component, directing it to pass on our experience in regard to what needs to be considered to achieve a good product design.”

The whole team at Pentagon was enthused by this visit and it was great to see the younger generation paying an interest in what is (wrongly) perceived as an ageing industry.

Tutor Mark Jenkins said the trip had opened student’s eyes to what a business can offer in terms of a first placement experience, and later career opportunities.
