Musical treats from CAOS

CAOS Musical Productions are limbering up for next year’s big production of The Sound Of Music at Chichester Festival Theatre with a couple of evenings of musical treats.

They are staging The Delights Of Music Hall on Saturdays, November 19 and 26 at The Newell Centre, St Pancras, Chichester at 7.30pm, plus a matinee on November 26 at 2.30pm, with tickets priced £8, including refreshments, available on 01243 783945.

Ray Treagust, who has put the show together, promises “something old, something new, something borrowed, but nothing blue” in a concert mixture of solos and choruses with a touch of Christmas.

Among the delights will be excerpts from Singin’ In The Rain, a Parisian scene and a London scene.

In the meantime, CAOS chairman Elizabeth Peacock is delighted with progress so far towards their production of The Sound Of Music in Chichester’s Minerva Theatre next year, directed by Kathryn Wignall (February 13-18).

“Preparations are going very well. We have got the full cast now,” she said.

Elizabeth accepts it’s going to be a challenge.

“It’s not an easy thing to stage in the Minerva because you have got to have the cloisters and the mountains and the rest of it! But we have got a fabulous group of nuns and our children are absolutely wonderful. They are an absolute dream on stage.”

Taking the part of Maria will be Victoria Kent: “She is been in The Sound Of Music three or four times before, but this is her first time as Maria.”

Overall it’s a strong cast, Elizabeth said - a pleasant mix of regulars and newcomers to CAOS, but newcomers with plenty of experience.
