Maroons to mark Armistice Day in Littlehampton

MAROONS will be fired from the beach at Littlehampton to mark the beginning and the end of the two-minute silence on Armistice Day, on Friday, November 11, at 11am.

Details were announced as Littlehampton Royal British Legion branch launched its annual Poppy Appeal, supported by Arun District Council’s new chief executive, Nigel Lynn.

Dignitaries from Arun District Council, as well as the Bognor Regis and Littlehampton MP, Nick Gibb, along with members from the Royal British Legion and Royal Naval Association will gather at the Littlehampton war memorial in Beach Road, to observe the silence.

The council’s chairman, councillor Dennis Wilde, who will be attending the event, said: “The Royal British Legion’s Two Minute Silence Campaign affords us all an opportunity to commemorate the official ending of the First World War.

“I hope to see as many people as possible joining us to observe the silence, to remember loved ones, those brave men and women who have given their lives for others and those who remain involved in conflict around the world.”

He added: “I am sure the people of Arun will turn out in force to remember our local servicemen and women on both Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday and I ask everyone to support the Royal British Legion and wear their poppy with pride.
