It was nervous, it was tense, but in the end it was mission accomplished for Pulborough RFC’s First team on Saturday.

Playing their final league match of the season, Sussex 1 champions ‘Boro won at Seaford to make it a perfect 22 wins from 22 league games this campaign.

It is a marvellous achievement for the hugely talented young side - although completing the job was far from easy. Skipper Richard Nicholls admitted: “Our coach journey over no one spoke, it was complete silence. It was amazing how nervous we all were, there was an awful lot of tension in the air.”

That hardly showed however in a super first half against the side who finished third in the division.

They utilised playing with the gusty wind and down the slope to lead 24-0 at half-time.

But after a converted Eastbourne try at the start of the second half, Pulborough found themselves defending for their lives to see out a 24-7 victory to wrap up their perfect Sussex 1 season.
