Horsham too good for Barns Green

Barns Green were outclassed by a slick Horsham seconds in Saturday’s one-sided 68-0 derby defeat in Sussex Division 2 West.

The early exchanges were fairly even, and Barns Green were almost in for a try when Lloyd Cooley was sent clear by Pete Salkeld, only to be called back for a forward pass. And within ten minutes, Horsham had scored two tries, using their pace and the space in behind Barns Green to good effect.

Barns Green competed well at set pieces but were found wanting when faced with the pace and organisation of the Horsham backs. The visitors did enjpoy some territory, but were unable to convert a number of penalties inside the Horsham 22.

Horsham were a class apart in the second half, the combinations of forwards and backs too much for Green to handle as sloppy decision-making and poor defensive organisation contributed to the scoreline. Coach Josh Callahan said: “I was happy with the commitment, especially as we defended for long periods.”
