VIDEO: Horsham golfer’s two holes-in-one

For most golfers, it is a once in a lifetime experience, but Horsham golfer Rhodri Marsden is celebrating two holes-in-one in a week.

The 23-year-old eight handcapper from Horsham notched his first ace playing with friends in the Bushpig Golf Society on the sixth hole at Horsham Golf & Fitness, and then repeated the feat at the short fourth days later in the club’s January Stableford competition.

“I got on the fourth tee and was talking about the hole-in-one at the sixth,” Rhodri said. “I joked that I would try to get this one in too, and could not believe it when it did. It was a pretty random experience.”

Rhodri has been playing since he was seven, and came to Horsham two years ago from Wales, where he worked at Ryder Cup venue Celtic Manor.

His first ace, the first of his golf career, came at the 129 yard par three sixth. Rhodri hit a nine iron, and after a bounce off the shoulder of a bunker guarding the green, the ball tracked straight for the pin.

He said: “My friend was left in a bt of a trance, we did not know, we all ran around the hole when we got to the green- but I did not have any money to buy a round of drinks!”

His second ace was on the 113 yard fourth, ranked the second easiest on the course.

Rhodri added: “I said to my mate Terry, I am going to put this in, I pulled out a 52 gap wedge. There was a bit of standing water, I said I would fade it into that, it would be the perfect shot, and it should go in. It hit the water and splashed straight in, just like a dunk in a basketball game.” Although Rhodri had to buy two rounds - his second ace earned a share of the two-ball birdie pot to soften the blow.
