Horsham’s Sussex Community Shield match against Eastbourne Borough next month will kick-off a charity fundraising iniative.
The Sussex County Football Association is backing the NSPCC’s ChildLine service by pledging to raise £2,000.
The football association has signed up to the free and confidential helpline’s 30 for 30 initiative which is raising funds for ChildLine in its 30th year.
It will begin its fundraising with the Sussex Community Shield match between Eastbourne Borough and Horsham on Tuesday, August 2, at the Sussex County FA headquarters in Culver Road, Lancing.
The traditional match takes place before the start of the season and is between the Sussex Senior Cup winners and Southern Combination League champions.
The 30 for 30 initiative calls for 30 companies across Sussex to raise £2,000 each which represents the average cost of recruiting and training one ChildLine volunteer and funding the first 100 calls they answer.
By signing up to 30 for 30, the funds raised by Sussex County FA will help ChildLine reach more young people needing support.
Ken Benham, chief cxecutive of Sussex County FA, said: “We are very proud of our support for the NSPCC and being one of the 30 for 30 companies’ helps to focus our fundraising efforts.
“We hope, with the help of Sussex football, to exceed our target through a variety of events, kicking-off with our curtain raiser to the football season, the Sussex Community Shield.”
Tickets for the match, to be held at Culver Road on Tuesday, August 2, will be sold at the turnstiles on the day with prices ranging from £6 per adult, £3 concessions and £1 for children under the age of 16.
