Some special mums are being lauded this Mother’s Day for their determination and commitment.

The Starr Trust, which provides a helping hand so young people in the BN postcode area can fulfil their potential, wants to give a special shout out to Claire Clements, Kim Freeman and life peer Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson.

Nicole Carman from the Starr Trust said: “We are so impressed by the determination and commitment of all three of these incredible mums, who have each made such a difference to others’ lives.”

Claire, from Lancing, helped her daughter Hannah to overcome an incredibly tough time at school and asked the trust to support her in her new found passion, kayaking and rafting.

Since taking up these sports, Hannah has completely turned her life around - so much so that she competed with Team GB in the world championships in Dubai last year and came back with five medals.

Kim’s son Nathan was born with cerebral palsy and approached the trust for help with paying for a racing wheelchair for him.

He absolutely loves chair racing and says it makes him feel like he is running. His dream is to take part in the Paralympics.

Nathan, from Worthing, was really keen to meet one of the Paralympians and that dream started to take shape after Claire and Kim met last year.

Claire reached out to Tanni, who amassed a remarkable medal haul over 16 years with five Paralympic Games. She won 11 gold medals, four silver and a bronze, and is a board member of many sports organisations.

Claire arranged for Nathan to meet Tanni and her husband Ian for some personal training in wheelchair racing. Nathan was absolutely delighted and the meeting was a huge success.

Nathan learned about technical elements of wheelchair racing and received practical tips and encouragement. He was left feeling totally inspired.

Nicole added: “We are always looking to help as many young people as we can and would love to hear from any mums out there like Kim and Claire who need support for their kids.”
