Taster event offers active alternative to childcare

National activity group Fit for Sport have been organising holiday camps for children for 20 years.

The Ofsted registered programme provides active childcare for schoolchildren, where they can learn how to be healthy and keep their bodies moving.

On the 19th February, The Holbrook Club on North Heath Lane, Horsham are hosting a taster session to welcome the club’s new partnership with Fit for Sport.

The event will run from 9.30-4.30pm at a cost of £10 p/day per child, for children aged 4-12 years old.

An alternative to typical childcare, the taster session operates with fully trained and DBS checked staff who supervise and guide the children through activities, including team sports.

At the venue they’ll enjoy use of high quality facilities, including the sports hall, base room, squash court, tennis court and outdoor area.

A primary aim of the award winning Fit for Sport is to ‘offer an engaging approach to childcare’ where children can be safely “outside and active” whilst parents’ work during the school holidays.

At £10 p/day per child, the hourly cost of the camp is £1.43, which is great value for local parent’s looking for February half term activities. According to One Family’s childcare calculator based on the Daycare Trust childcare costs survey 2011, South East UK has an average childcare cost of over £5 per hour per child.

It’s recommended that children attend with a nut-free packed lunch, two healthy snacks, appropriate footwear and clothes to match the weather for outdoor activities.

Whilst water will be provided, children should also come with a labelled water bottle.
