Car spotted being driven on the wrong side of the A24

Godfrey Maclauchlan was arrested at 6am on Tuesday June 2 after officers stopped his Ford Mondeo on the A272 in Cowfold.

Maclauchlan, of Crown Road, Billericay, Essex, was charged with drink-driving and released on bail to appear at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on June 16.

Simon Shanly, 52, was arrested at 12.10am on Tuesday after a collision involving his Ford Mondeo and a Nissan Note on the A27, close to the Ford roundabout at Arundel.

Shanly, of Church Road, Yapton, was charged with drink-driving, failing to stop after an accident and driving without insurance. He was released on bail to appear at Worthing Magistrates’ Court on June 16.

Christian Small, 23, was arrested at 2.30am on Tuesday after a crash in Old London Road, Hastings.

Small, of Hill Road, Fairlight, was charged with drink-driving and was released on bail to appear at Hastings Magistrates’ Court on June 17.

Bela Orosz, 62, was arrested at 10am on Tuesday after allegedly driving the wrong way on the A23 slip road at Hickstead.

Orosz, of Capel Road, Rusper, was charged with drink-driving and released on bail to appear at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on June 16.

A statement from Sussex Police said: “A total of five people have so far been charged with offences as part of Sussex Police’s summer crackdown on drink and drug-driving across the county.

“As part of Operation Dragonfly, road policing unit officers are on dedicated patrols looking for offenders.

“Teams are responding to tip-offs from members of the public who see someone they know has been drinking getting into a car to drive.

“Stop checks are also being set up at locations across Sussex and Surrey, in particular at locations where there is intelligence that there has been a history of drink-driving.

“In previous campaigns, the forces have named all those charged with drink or drug-driving offences that were committed during the month-long crackdown.

“In addition, this year the forces will be releasing footage of convicted offenders that shows the state they were in when they got behind the wheel - and how important it is that they are banned from the roads before they hurt anyone.

“People in Sussex can text officers on 65999 with the details of people they suspect of drink or drug driving or visit www.operationcrackdown.co.uk.
