Keira Knightley and Steve Carell team up for a funny and touching end-of-the-world comedy.

A 75-mile wide asteroid is on a collision course with the Earth. Humanity has just 21 days left.

While the media provide a cheery countdown to doom, interspersed with classic rock, people start to seize the moment. Among them is the wife of meek, conformist insurance salesman Dodge (Steve Carell), who promptly leaves him. Adrift, Dodge teams up with extrovert neighbour Penny (Keira Knightley) and they hit the road together.

He’s determined to track down his school sweetheart, while she plans to spend her last days with her family in England.

But as they flee the riot-torn city, this odd couple embark on a journey that is as much personal as it is incident-packed.DETACHMENT (15)

Adrien Brody shines in a hard-hitting portrait of the US school system.

Henry Barthes (Adrien Brody) is a supply teacher with a troubled past, who avoids staying anywhere long enough to form any emotional connections. His latest employer is Carol Dearden (Marcia Gay Harden), the weary principal of an inner-city high school that’s on the verge of collapse.

Pupils are disaffected and show no interest in learning while their teachers are frustrated and worn out. But Henry’s strength, empathy and refusal to be intimidated earns the grudging respect of his class. Inadvertently becoming a role model, he also bonds with a runaway teen. Cast also includes James Caan, Lucy Liu, Blythe Danner and Tim Blake Nelson.
