Steam engine Stanier Black Five 45212, which has previously run trains along the famous ‘Harry Potter’ Glenfinnan Viaduct, will be heading the first of two special trips with the Cathedrals Express.

On Thursday March 8, the engine will be take passengers on a unique journey from Horsham through the Surrey and Sussex countryside on its way to Dorset. Once there, passengers have a choice of three fabulous itineraries.

They can either choose to spend an afternoon in Salisbury, visit one of the Seven Wonders of the World, Stonehenge, or remain on the train to the market town of Sherborne. Passengers will have three and a half hours to explore the beautiful town visiting the Abbey, town centre and castle ruins before enjoying the return journey. The trip will depart from Horsham at approximately 7.30am and return at approximately 12.05am.

On Thursday August 30, the second of the trips from Horsham will take passengers on a new itinerary via the South Coast to Chichester and Salisbury. The trip will be steam hauled all the way and once in Chichester passengers will be able to enjoy the delightful cathedral city.

Next the journey will continue to Salisbury where passengers can soak up the atmosphere of the city and explore its magnificent cathedral.

Marcus Robertson, founder of Steam Dreams Rail Co said: “We are very excited to be able to bring the joy of steam travel to Horsham twice this year, both with the engine which has previously travelled over the famous Glenfinnan Viaduct but also on our new route to Chichester and Salisbury taking in some fabulous scenery and opening up new options for locals”.

Tickets for both trips are available in four classes. Prices range from £109 per person in premium standard through to the top class of Pullman style dining at £269 per person.

Passengers travelling in Pullman style will enjoy a two course champagne brunch on the outward journey and a three course dinner on the return.

Those opting for premium standard will be seated at tables of four in open carriages and served with complimentary tea and coffee at their seats.
