Sixty Steyning Grammar school students have been working hard on their latest production – a rock ’n’ roll musical.
They are set to perform We Will Rock You, Ben Elton’s West End hit based on the songs of Queen, from Friday to Sunday, July 8-10.
The show tells a fast-moving tale about a group of rebel Bohemians struggling to find an individuality and freedom of expression.
Former pupil and co- director Alex Packer said: “We Will Rock You is full of big characters and crazy concepts and the students have really embraced the show with enthusiasm and passion.
“I can’t wait until we get to share it with an audience.”
He continued: “As a former student at Steyning, I feel it’s extremely important to continue to nurture and encourage the vast amount of talented young artists Steyning Grammar School has. There are so many fantastic young actors, singers and dancers and the creative team’s aim is to allow their abilities to thrive in a massive musical like this one.
“I feel extremely proud to be part of a creative team – choreographer, designer, sound and lighting designers – who are all former students and who return to the school every year to share their professional skills in order to encourage Steyning Grammar School’s gifted performers.
“We Will Rock You will be bursting with energy and roaring rock anthems performed by some very talented young people.”
Company member Maddie Faery said: “This will be my sixth musical and second time in We Will Rock You. Originally in 2011, I was part of the company, and this year I am playing the role of Killer Queen. It has been amazing to experience this show from a different point of view and, as always, I am excited and honoured to be part of such a professional production.
