A wide ranging musical feast from the classics to the romantics and 20th century is on offer at the next Horsham Music Circle concert at the Capitol on Friday, November 18 at 7.30pm.
Local musicians Jill Elsworthy (pictured) soprano, Barry Sutton viola, Charlotte Thomas clarinet and Jane Thomas piano have come together to perform a tempting programme of attractive duos, trios and an especially-arranged quartet.
For Jill this will be a welcome change of roles for the evening from hosting other performers as honorary organising secretary of the Music Circle to being involved with some active music making.
Jill studied at the Royal Academy of Music and has since had a busy career as a teacher. She has been soprano soloist in most of the standard oratorios and given many recitals of English Song and Lieder.
Barry Sutton graduated from the Guildhall School of Music and has followed a freelance performing career playing with many prestigious orchestras. He teaches locally, is a member of the string quartet Enesqu and shares the leadership of Horsham Symphony Orchestra. Charlotte Thomas is a chartered engineer after training at Magdalene College, Cambridge where she gained further performing experience and now enjoys playing in orchestras and chamber groups. Jane Thomas studied at the Royal College of Music where she was in much demand as an accompanist. She has been head of music at Farlington School and at Arundale School, combined with a busy career as accompanist and chamber musician, she is now back at teaching at Farlington.
The programme includes songs with clarinet and piano by Spohr, pieces by Bruch for clarinet, viola and piano, songs with viola and piano by Bridge, Mozart’s Kegelstatt Trio for clarinet, viola and piano, duo works by Rachmaninov and Schumann and finally three songs of the Auvergne by Canteloube including the popular ‘Bailero’.
