Two European medals soft the blow for runner Adrian Haines

Adrian Haines made up for his 800m disappointment by taking bronze in the 1,500m final at the European Masters Indoor Championships in Spain.

Having won his 1,500m heat out in San Sebastian in 4min 23.91 seconds, Adrian ran a great race in the final to clock an indoor personal best time of 4m 14s to take third place.

An exhausted Adrian, who grew up in Slinfold, put himself through a gruelling schedule having run in the 400m, 800m and 1,500m of the M45 events. He said: “Because of the 800m disappointment, I was quite focused and tried to forget about the heavy legs.

“I was in fourth and pipped it on the line for the bronze by 9/100ths of a second. Even better, it made it a gb one, two, three on the podium.”

Not content with just the one medal, the dedicated runner also added another bronze later in the day for the 4x200m relay, making it an astonishing eight races in six days.

Adrian had earlier come fifth in the 800m final after two runners fell in front of him during the race.
