Horsham Joggers were the hosts for the annual Valentine’s Run which took place in Southwater on Sunday.
This was the third race of the West Sussex Fun Run League series which sees 18 clubs from West Sussex competing in 18 races throughout the year.
This year the multi-terrain Valentine’s Day course was extended to 5.25 miles, although with plenty of muddy bridleways to negotiate, the tough terrain left many competitors feeling that they had run much further.
The new course encouraged a record number of entries with 446 runners completing this year’s race.
First place went to Horsham Joggers’ Neil Boniface, who, despite the tough course, showed that he was on form, with a comfortable win in 32min 24sec.
Second went to Worthing Striders’ James Espie in 32-43 and Horsham Joggers rising star Dean Heneghan took third place in 33-00.
First in the women’s race was Lewes AC’s Jocelyn Lowden in 37-08, Maria Barrow, also from Lewes AC, took second in 39-39 and third went to Worthing Harriers’ Deborah Vent in 41-51.
Despite many club members helping to organise the race, the Joggers were well represented with 20 members featuring in the results.
