HOLBROOK RFC still have an outstanding chance of sealing a Sussex Division 1 play-off place this weekend, according to upbeat skipper Simon Ley.
Currently in third, four points behind Burgess Hill in the race for the right to battle for a London League place, Holbrook go into the final weekend hoping results will be kind. The North Lane side travel to local rivals Pulborough, where only a bonus point win will do, while Burgess Hill face a tough trip to Hastings and Bexhill.
Ley said: “We know what we have to do. And it means Hastings have to beat Burgess Hill. We know they are a strong team at home and will be fighting for every point.
“It will be a very interesting couple of games. Pulborough and ourselves are very similar teams and it will all come down to what happens on the day. We will be looking to finish the season strongly and end up in that play-off, and if we get there we are going to go for it.”
If Holbrook do manage to reach and win the one off match against a Kent league side to decide who goes into London South East 3, they then have another conundrum. With their second XV struggling in Sussex 2 West, strength in depth is an issue.
Ley remarked: “Recruitment has been good this year and we may be able to field a third or vets team, but we need the seconds to stay up.”
