MAN OF THE tournament Alex MacFarlane led the way as Horsham under-11s won the Lewes Minis Rugby festival.

In glorious sunshine with the South Downs as a backdrop, the first game against East Grinstead saw Horsham win by three tries to one with scores from Jo Endacott, Conor Riley and Adam Williams with some strong running, recycling and good passing from the whole team.

Next up were the hosts Lewes who had a stong running centre who scored two tries but Horsham matched this with high levels of commitment to square the scores up in the second half with tries from Matthew Pitt and Endacott, who both showed strong and powerful running skills.

The final game against Uckfield saw an early try from Matthew Pitt but a long tense period when both teams defended well ended when Endacott scored again and Pitt went over for his second try of the game. With two wins and one draw Horsham were declared the winners and Andrew Mailer collected the trophy.

It was a well-deserved win after many close losses in other tournaments and the whole squad contributed. Man of the tournament MacFarlane was the leading light by winning all the scrums for the team even on the opposition put in and setting a good platform for the strong running game Horsham played.
