Cranleigh and Holbrook were in pre-season action this week as the Cranes ran out 20-0 winners in their annual floodlit warm-up.
The match was split into four twenty minute quarters to try and give everyone a good run out and try out different combinations. The first quarter saw Ben Smith crash over for a good try after coming off his wing. Further good breaks were made and decent skills were shown throughout. The large Holbrook pack made their presence felt in the scrum while both teams struggled to win much clean ball at the lineout.
After almost a year off through injury, flanker Harry Nye made a big impression and scrum half Charlie Miller played his first senior game with confidence and an impressive sidestep.
In the less glamorous areas Ben Terson and Jordan Biggin put in commendable shifts and the front row was boosted by the return of prop Toby Mussell. Jake Shayler scored two tries on his return to action following a long injury lay off.
And against Chichester on Saturday Cranleigh were beaten 10-8 by Chichester II, James Moore scored a try from his own half and Ben Lines kicked a penalty for the Cranes.
New players & social members are most welcome at Wildwood Lane, where they also run two ladies netball teams, plus a full range of Mini & Junior sides for both boys & girls, with a highly competitive Veterans rugby team completing the stable of Cranleigh RFC sides.
