Pulborough wing wizards Scrase and Game put Hove under their spell

The hosts piled on 12 unanswered tries to run out resounding 74-0 winners and make it a perfect 13 wins from 13 in Sussex 1.

Delighted skipper Richard Nicholls, still watching from the sidelines because of injury, heaped praise on his two young wingers who shone particularly bright.

He said: “Our backs have really stepped it up in the last few matches and in particular Will Scrase and Brad Game are in cracking form.

“They only came through the colts last year and both have been superb, playing on either wing they scored seven of our tries between them.”

Pulborough dominated from the off as the chance of a first league defeat never looked a possibility.

Game helped himself to four tries, Scrase a hat-trick, while also on target were Harry Perry, Simon Burfiend, Harry Perry, Will Boulton, Will Jordan and Charlie Mears.

“All the tries came from our backs, they’re looking really dangerous,” Nicholls said. “Hove are a big side so the message, as it usually is was to get the ball out wide quickly and it paid off for us.

“It was a cracking result, we were expecting a much tougher game especially as when we played them away there was only one try in it. Everything went well for us on the day.”

Pulborough have thus far destroyed all in their path in the league, scoring 591 points in their 13 straight victories, conceding only 83.

Their lead at the top is nine points, with nearest rivals Crawley this weekend’s opponents away from home.

“If Crawley were to beat us the gap could be down to just four points so Saturday is probably our biggest game of the season so far,” said Nicholls, who is hoping to return. “A win and I’d be pretty confident of achieving our goals.”
