Developer Westrock has submitted a planning application to Horsham District Council for a bowling clubhouse, car park, and landscaping behind the community building in Pondtail Road.

As part of Westrock’s plansfor a new Waitrose in Horsham town centre’s Bishopric, there have been suggestions that Horsham Bowling Club, behind Lifestyle Ford, would have to relocate.

In correspondence with HDC available on the planning portal TDH Estates Ltd, acting as agents in the application, said: “These proposals will allow for the relocation of Horsham Bowling Club from their current site at Bishopric, to allow redevelopment of that site in accordance with the council’s strategy for the extension of Horsham town centre. Additional improvement works to the parish council owned Tythe Barn and recreation centre will benefit the local community and user groups of the facilities here.”

Current bowling facilities at Tythe Barn are described as being in ‘poor condition’ and have not been used for a number of years.

As part of proposals the two Multi-Use Game Area courts would be re-surfaced.

An extraordinary North Horsham Parish Council meeting was held last Wednesday to discuss Holbrook Tythe Barn, where the press and public were excluded.
