Invite for family historians

ANY budding family historians are invited to the County Record Office, Orchard Street, Chichester, for the latest coffee time session on Wednesday July 6 at 10am.

These sessions give people the opportunity to learn from the experts in a relaxed atmosphere, over a cup of tea or coffee.

This one is specifically aimed at beginners and will introduce some of the many archive sources available for budding genealogists.

Sources include Parish registers, which can take your family history all the way back to Tudor times through church records of Baptisms, marriages and burials.

Wills can include inventories that list and value, room by room, all the possessions a person had at the time of their death. They give a detailed insight into how the family lived and what standard of life they enjoyed and endured.

There will be help on how to use a computer to find what you’re looking for, and an introduction to the great range of archive material available at the Record Office.

The sessions are held on the first Wednesday of every month. Some are for beginners. Others concentrate on specific areas of family history, such as dating old photographs or what to look for in army records.

Tickets are £7.50, and can be booked in advance. Telephone 01243 753602 or email [email protected]
