Around 100 club members and dignitaries gathered for a landmark day in the club’s 109-year history.

The estimated £2million new facility in Pondtail Road has been funded by Developer Westrock, who are building upon the club’s previous home in the Bishopric.

The major development in the west of the town which will see a new Waitrose and John Lewis built, meant the bowling club amicably came to the decision with the developers and Horsham District Council to relocate.

They had previously been at their old base from 1906 when they were formed, with the land later being brought by them for just £500.

Saturday saw the traditional cutting of the ribbon to open the clubhouse, a first jack rolled by Bill King, a relative of founding member John Busby King, as well as a buffet and friendly match.
