Tennis round up: Billingshurst in line for title challenge?

Billingshurst men’s second team gave a battling display to beat previously undefeated Steyning seconds in the Sussex League.

First pair Josh Bullivant and Nick Moss led the way by winning their first round match 6-2, 7-5, which they followed up by beating the Steyning second pair by 6-4, 7-6. After a disappointing first round loss, Malcolm Downey and David Mason recovered to beat Steyning’s first couple 2-6, 7-6, 6-1.

Billingshurst remain undefeated in their division this summer and with two matches remaining now have a chance of overtaking Steyning, who had enjoyed a 100 per cent record prior to this match.

Meanwhile. Comptons Ladies had two good wins at the weekend.

Fourth team of Jane Wakefield and Gill Fairham - recovered from losing their first match - Janice Retter and Julie James overpowered Crawley firsts 3-1 on Saturday. The fifth team of Maire Hall and Bridgit Lyne and Pat Etheridge and Jill Bowden then beat David Lloyd Worthing 3-1.
