The annual Barns Green Half Marathon was another stepping success on Sunday and the brand new 10k race also proved a running revelation.
It was the 34th running of the half marathon while for the very first time, organisers introduced a new 10km race, which almost 400 runners took part in and saw it labelled a huge success by both the participants and the organisers.
More than 1,200 runners registered for the half marathon as the event raised almost £6,000 for official charity St Catherine’s Hospice.
Race director Vernon Jennings said: “I couldn’t be happier with the way that the day went. Launching the new 10k race was not easy and presented my committee with some testing challenges.
“However, the new race proved to be extremely popular which justified our decision to introduce it.”
