A record 500 runners descended on Steyning last Wednesday evening for the athletic club’s Round Hill Romp fun run.

A further 60 juniors took part in the supporting mini romp on the town’s Memorial Playing Fields.

These popular events attract runners from across the county and are part of the West Sussex Fun Run League.

The main race started under the town clock with the route taking competitors onto countryside footpaths.

The route then climbed to the top of the Downs for some great views of the area, before dropping back down to the town for the finish.

The race was won by Daniel Harman in 33min 19sec. Steyning’s James Walker came home in third spot in 34-36.

The first lady to finish was Fay Cripps from Chichester Runners in 36-59.
