JOLYON Palmer’s preparations for life in Formula 1’s major feeder series are wrapped up following last week’s final pre-season test in Barcelona.
The Southwater racer, 20, joined GP2’s other 23 drivers competing in prestigious series for two days of testing at Spain’s Circuit de Catalunya.
Jolyon, son of former F1 ace Jonathan, graduated to GP2 after his second place finish in last year’s FIA Formula Two Championship, and gave a glimpse of what was to come when he competed in two races of the GP2 Asia series earlier this year.
And he was on the pace right from the start going seventh quickest in the morning session on the first day. A consistent performance in the afternoon session saw him secure 15th fastest and end the first day an impressive ninth quickest overall.
Heavy traffic in the morning stint on day two meant Joylon was forced to settle for P19 with the British driver, who is run by Arden International, finishing 20th in the final afternoon session on day two.
After the final session, Jolyon said: “It’s been a productive test. I was quite happy with how things went on day one finishing ninth overall. I’ve got a few things to work on but it’s been a productive day as we have got through a good test plan and learnt a lot about this new GP2 car.”
