HORSHAM Hockey Club’s under-18 girls returned from Manchester clutching silverware after victory in the National Plate Finals.
Some superb performances at the Manchester event were kick started as they dominated against York City - Becky Heslop grabbed the first and Horsham went on to score four more against a stunned defence. That meant a win or draw against Lichfield would ensure the Plate came to Sussex. And Jess Dean netted the opener to put Horsham in charge, before Lichfield levelled.
After going 2-1 down two Lichfield players were sinbinned, and Horsham sized on the advantage to run out 4-1 winners.
England Hockey Officials were heard to remark that the girl’s standard of hockey was that of a cup final.
Captain Rachel Kimberley said: “Throughout the ten years that the core of the team have played together the hockey has been exceptional and the team spirit always high these factors together have contributed to the many successes.”
