Horsham swimmers step out of seniors shadow

JUNIOR Atlantis swimmers had the chance to shine when they competed last Sunday at the Littlehampton Open meet.

With the senior squad away for a training camp in Italy, some of the younger Atlantis members were chasing Regional Qualifying Times, others returning from injury and some just there for the competition.

Each swimmer had some excellent swims, many winning medals and grabbing personal best times.

Lauren Pedel, ten, and Leah Clarke, 11, led the way as they achieved South East Regional Qualifying times respectively in the 200m breaststroke and 100m freestyle. Lauren knocked more than 17 seconds off her personal best time and Leah achieved her time by the slimmest of margins - 0.01sec.

Lauren also won gold in the 100m breast, silver in 200m breast and bronze in 50m free - an excellent day for her all round. Leah picked up silver in her 50 free.

Team manager Matthew Cumber said “It was a really good day for Atlantis with every swimmer achieving some personal goals or winning medals , they all enjoyed themselves as well which shows the great atmosphere and strength in depth the club has.”
