GREAT Britain handball hopeful Mark Hawkins will carry the London 2012 flame during its tour of Sussex.
The Olympic Torch Relay will pass through Crawley on Tuesday July 17, and Mark will be joined by fellow Horsham resident James Bryce, 38. Young Gabriella Rogers, 12, also from Horsham, will also have the honour of carrying the flame through Lewes, on the same day, while Peter Hayes will carry the torch through Copthorne and Hwa-Lon Liu has the honour in East Grinstead.
Although Horsham has been missed off the relay route, Crawley is the nearest town spectators can watch the flame pass through. The Crawley leg of the relay will start in Brighton Road on July 17, and wind its way through Crawley town centre before heading along Northgate Avenue, before continuing its journey towards East Grinstead via Copthorne. During July 16, the torch will travel along the South Coast after arriving from Hampshire, passing through Midhurst, Petworth, along Station Road, North Street and Midhurst Road, before passing through Chichester, Bognor, Worthing, Lancing and Brighton. After leaving Crawley on the 17th, the torch will visit East Grinstead, Tunbridge Wells, Crowborough, Lewes, Eastbourne and Hastings before heading into Kent on July 18.
