Horsham ladies climbed up to third in the Investec Women’s Conference East with a 1-1 draw at home to Ipswich on Saturday.

A Charlotte White goal in the first half ensured they took a point although captain Hannah Simpson felt they could have gone on to win the game.

Ipswich took the lead through a penalty stroke, before Horsham fought back quickly as White scored a reserve shot to equalise.

In the second half, Horsham pressured with some good passages of play with a number of players going close.

Simpson said: “Saturday was a very good team performance and we were unlucky not to have scored more.

“ I am looking forward to next weekend where we face another of the promoted sides (Maidenhead).

“We are concentrating on performing well and continuing to develop.”

n In a friendly match with last season’s Sussex Prem Division winners Eastbourne, Horsham Ladies 2nd put in a good showing despite a 3-0 defeat.

In the first 20 minutes, Eastbourne took the lead as Horsham goalkeeper Amanda Billington tried to deal with an aerial at the at the top of the D and resulted in a one on one with the Eastbourne player placing the ball in an open goal.

The second goal came from a miss-field from defence allowing Eastbourne with a three on one overload of players and scored.

A short corner saw Emily Jones narrowly miss, but Eastbourne quickly counter attacked and scored their third goal from yet another overload just before half-time.

Strong plays from switching from side to side allowed Horsham to attack and play some free-flowing hockey in the second half with some one-on-one chances from forward Lucy Woodward.

Another short corner included the straight strike from Zeph Hardy saw Lucy Clark diving at the fast post but unable to capitalise.
