HORSHAM Hockey Club men’s second XI won promotion to Sussex Division 1 in some style by beating Brighton fourths 8-0 on Saturday.
The squad travelled safe in the knowledge that a win would prove enough for a return to Division 1, and they set about the task at hand, and started solidly but lacked the fluidity of recent weeks, partly due to the very sandy pitch making everything harder.
Horsham’s hard work came good again however and the final score of 8-0 to Horsham reflected the gap between top of the table Horsham & mid table Brighton, but not without the assistance of the keeper who made some fantastic saves after what have been some quiet weeks in Horsham’s defence.
Horsham skipper David Youngman commented: “It was clear from early season that we had a strong team and a structure of play that would cause our opposition trouble this year. It was therefore important to look ahead, and ensure we always played our best hockey in the face of weaker opposition to give us a strong basis for the opposition to be faced next season.”
