The Martlets dominated the 23rd annual West Sussex County Fours Championship with two teams reaching the final.

Chris Blackman, Chris Rolph, Jack Rollings and Marc Lancaster won a third successive county crown with a 10-2 defeat of stablemates Mel Lillywhite, John Brown, Paul Day and Ivan Salmon - three of whom were playing in their first competition.

Kath Bennett and Michael Allmond beat Cyril Napper and Brian Barnes into second place in the Southwater two-wood pairs competition, winning four of their five games. Meanwhile, Southwater Sharks took two of the six points on offer in a defeat to Downsman in West Sussex County League NE Division 2.

And in indoor bowls, Horsham IBC’s ladies narrowly lost their annual contest with Eastbourne and District 105-112. Top rink was Judy Morris, Sylvia Thomason, Linda Dawes and Marion Hargrave 23-15. Horsham’s gents beat Langney Sports, as D Bunday, M Ryan, G Kentish and J Coghlan inspired a 123-115 victory. That was followed by a 135-111 defeat of Worthing in which Norman Brown, Jo Bullen, Chris Bullen and Brian Warner (27-13) took top rink. And finally The London Civil Service came away 94-82 winners - top Horsham rink went to C Robins, J Austin, P Reeves and D James 20-12.
