Horsham athletes set to mount Sportshall challenge

The Horsham Blue Star Harriers boys team retained second spot in the Sussex Sportshall League after a second place finish in the latest fixture, but the girls have slipped to third after finishing behind Brighton and Crawley.

A double win in the under-13 standing triple jump set the tone, as Jamie Hughes won the A string (6.41m) and team mate Connor Dearden took the B string with (5.51m). These two then teamed up in the six lap race for a second place in the A string (Hughes) and a win in the B event (Dearden).

Sam Hughes won the under-13 four lap race with ease, while Jonah Harewood clocked 50.0secs for a B string second place. Jordan Levey won the Under 13 Shot putt with and then took second place in the two lap sprint. Dearden and Jake Sinclair both had second place finishes in the vertical jump, with Jake winning the B string Speed Bounce with a score of 71. Harry Bryant was third A.

The under-15 boys recorded success as Jack Milnthorpe won the B four lap race and Zach Dolton was second in the A, he was also second in the standing triple jump, where Andrew price won the B string after his second place in the A two lap race. In the under-11s, Alfie Waring and Arthur Powell both took second places in the two lap races, while Horsham won three of the five relay races.

There was a double first in the under-13 girls vertical jump where Jade Lindo leapt an impressive 62cm to win the A event and Mia Frost leapt 48cm for the B string win. In the Under 15 girls standing triple jump Emma Garry took second place in the A string with 6.14m and Esme Vale won the B event with 5.79m. Also, Tabby lee was second in the under-15 vertical jump with a leap of 50cm.
