Prodigious Horsham golfer Marco Penge capped a phenomenal year with one of the top prizes at the Sussex Sports Awards, held on Friday November 29 at The Grand Hotel, Brighton.
Marco scooped the University of Chichester Young Sports Personality of the Year award on the night, adding to his recent Sussex Player of the Year, voted for by his fellow players.
Along with winning the prestigious Fairhaven Trophy, one of the ‘majors’ of the junior game, in May the teenager was also crowned English Boys U16 and U15 champion, and also represented England Boys against Austrailia, winning every match
The awards, now in its 11th year and hosted by Active Sussex, welcomed regular host, BBC Sussex DJ Danny Pike, and this year Olympic badminton silver medallist, Gail Emms MBE as the special guest.
Sadie Mason, Active Sussex chief executive said: “I would like to congratulate our winners and nominees on their wonderful achievements made this year. The awards ceremony rewards quality, achievement, determination and commitment to those involved in sport across the county.”
The Sussex Sports Awards celebrates the achievements made by the county’s most talented sportsmen and women and also the volunteers and coaches who give up their hours each week.
