Horsham FC began the new league season with all three points after a 2-1 victory over Eastbourne Town at Gorings Mead on Saturday.
Assistant manager Gary Charman was the Horsham hero with both goals either side of half time for the dominant hosts.
Eastbourne did get back into the game through Adam Davidson but the hosts held their nerve to record a first opening day win for five years.
Full report, pictures and reaction to the fine start in this week’s West Sussex County Times, out on Thursday.
This Wednesday Horsham fly out to play in newly promoted Guernsey’s historic first ever match in the Ryman League.
