Blue Star Baker is Horsham’s record breaker

MATT Baker set a new club record as Horsham Blue Star Harriers came out on top of their latest Southern Men’s League match at Dartford.

Gorm Young and Ricky Dewdney got the Blue Star athletes off to a flier, winning the A&B strings of the hammer, while Baker enjoyed a busy afternoon with a his record breaking personal best performance in the pole vault of 4.05m, a win in the long jump, a leap of 1.80m to win the high jump and a personal best to win the B discus, Baker was also part of the 4x400m team including James Hedges, Jason Wooldridge and Alex Best which stormed to victory against rivals Crawley.

On the track, Karl Johnston and Jason Woolridge completed an A&B double in the 400m hurdles, Jason Wooldridge took the 800m A string with Ryan Bowyer first in the B string in a personal best of 2min 17.8secs. While Baker was winning the A pole vault, James Mackman won the B string. Luke Johnson threw a personal best 45.44m to win the javelin, while Dewdney won the B string before he won the dicsus A event with a season’s best throw. Guy Pearce followed Baker’s lead in the high jump to take first in the B event. Elsewhere, Johnston was first in the 100m hurdles B string, and Jason Wooldridge cruised to a 1,500m win in 4m 35.6s.

Notable second places went to James Hedges, Adrian Fautly, Alex Best. Bill Knight, as Horsham beat Crawley into second place by 34 points.
