Horsham swimmers compete alongside 2012 Olympic heroes

Swimmers from the Horsham-based Atlantis SC rubbed shoulders with the cream of British Olympic talent last week.

Bex Lobley and Eleanor Morris were competing at the British Gas International Meet in Leeds, where London 2012 200m breaststroke silver medallist Micheal Jamieson was among the Team GB members, including Liam Tancock and Kerri Ann Payne, were on show.

The Horsham pair qualified for the event in the 50M breaststroke with Eleanor (13) achieving the junior qualifying time and Bex ( 17 ) the senior time.

And although neither girl made the finals both had solid performances in their heats.

Bex Lobley said: “It’s all part of our long term development to qualify and take part in big events like this one, every event brings little differences and we are learning all the time.”

Meanwhile, Atlantis recorded an impressive medal haul in the under-nine relay events at the County Championships in Crawley.

All the main Sussex teams entered squads and the Atlantis girls’ freestyle team and medley teams took gold

The freestyle team consisted of Ellie Smith, Anna Templar, Ethel Whyman and Emma Morris and the medley team was Emma Harrison, Ethyl Whyman, Emma Morris and Ellie Smith .

The boys’ team also made the medals with a silver from the freestyle team of William Carey , Nick Easton, Max Windle and Leon Kilford and then bronze in the medley relay with Fred Griffiths coming in on the breaststroke leg for the team.
