Horsham Joggers scoop the top prizes

After a hugely successful season which saw Horsham Joggers taking first prize in the Harvey Curtis Road Race Challenge, the club has maintained its position in the top three of the Sussex Grand Prix League.

That is after the women’s team finished first and the men came third to place the club as a whole second. The male vets’ team also won second prize.

All five lady Joggers finished in the top 14 individually, with Rachael Lloyd-Smith (formerly Guckenheim) leading the way taking second with Catherine Corck just behind in third. Janine Littler was tenth, Samantha Lloyd-Smith 12th and Alison Gormley 14th.

The Men’s team included Bryan Camfield, who took first prize in the Men’s Individual Competition, Paul Oakley (19th), Tony Johnson, Daniel Pettitt, John Dyckes, Mike O’Grady, Mark Smee, Raffaele Vitale, Steve Wilson and Alan Pettitt. Bryan, Paul, Tony, John and Mike also made up the Veteran’s team.

There were notable victories for individuals in the age categories.

Rachael Lloyd-Smith was first senior, Catherine Corck second senior, Janine Littler third vet 40, Alison Gormley second vet 45, and Julia Johnson second vet 50. Among the men, Daniel Pettitt was first junior, Bryan Camfield first vet 45, John Dyckes third vet 55 and Steve Wilson first vet 60.

Elsewhere Horsham Joggers’ seventh ‘Learn To Run’ group of novices, who joined the club in October impressed in their first 5k at Saturday’s Tilgate Parkrun. All 19 completed the course, with stand-out performances from Duncan Caskey (36th out of 257 runners in 22mins 50secs), Richard Cherriman (25.1), Tim Kanves (25.12), Caroline Gryba (25.54) and Rosie Banks (28.43).
