Horsham hockey Hotshots shine bright to win cup

Horsham Hotshots lived up to their name by shooting down Worthing Tigers to lift the Sussex Development League Cup on Saturday in brilliant sunshine at Saffrons Sports Club in Eastbourne.

The match was close from the word go, and after around ten minutes sustained Tigers’ pressure saw them earn a series of penalty corners, though Horsham’s defence stood firm with Matt Clemens and Hugo Vickers making important tackles, along with some brilliant goal line reactions from Keeper Daniel Hood and Sean Watson.

It took 20 minutes for Horsham to gain any short corners, but like Worthing they were unable to convert and it was goalless at half time.

The start of the second half was largely a midfield battle and man of the match Daniel Casey tackled back and built attacks well. Hotshots’ Sean Watson was brilliantly played through by Noah Chinn but the Worthing keeper denied him.

With three minutes to play the contest was looming towards a penalty shoot-out when George Comber powered through from the edge of the D through a crowd of players and fired the winning goal into the back of the net.

Hotshots held on to lift the Julian Potter Shield for the very first time, underlining a very successful season for the squad.
