Horsham boss not worried by early league position

The Hornets are 15th after the opening 11 games, 12 points behind the top two but with both leaders Walton Casuals and Hastings having played a game more.

“I think you can look at two of our (three) defeats and say we should have got something out of them and maybe a couple of draws we probably should have won,” Colbran said.

“If we’d have taken six more points we’d be on 21 by now and be up to fourth. But we’re in the position we’re in and I always said, because we’ve brought in a lot of players it would take until November until they really start to gel.

“Six points off a top four place is nothing and we’ve got a game in hand over a number of teams as well.

“We’re looking to reach the play-offs this season and that’s not changed. Once we get on a roll we’ll be hard to beat and I’m sure start moving up the table.”

Tuesday’s 1-1 draw away at Hythe Town saw Horsham go five league games without a win.

Still Colbran was delighted with his side’s performance given the length of the midweek trip. He said: “I thought we were excellent. Hythe are a decent side, they’ve not changed much from last season and it’s a difficult to go in normal circumstances, let alone for a long midweek trip.

“What also impressed me was that the players’ minds weren’t on our big FA Cup game at all so it was a fantastic result, and we had chances late on to nick it.”

That FA Cup game sees Colbran’s side host Chatham Town (3pm, Gorings Mead) on Saturday in the Third Qualifying Round, with £7,500 up for grabs for the winner.
