Great medals tally for Horsham Blue Star

The Blue Stars picked up a good tally of medals at the recent Sussex County Track & Field Championships, held over two days at K2 stadium, Crawley.

A total of 11 Gold, 16 Silver and 4 Bronze medals were achieved, with three medals, one of each colour won at the Surrey Championships at Kingston.

The first day started well with Joe West winning the Under 17 Men’s Pole Vault, clearing 3.80m, which was not only a personal best, but also an English School’s entry standard. The Pole Vault also saw Jade Brewster win the under 20 women’s event with a Championship best performance of 3.40m.

The track events were affected by a strong headwind, but this did not deter Amy Fitzpatrick who retained her Under 15 Girls 75m Hurdles title when winning in 12.1s. The Senior Women’s 100m Hurdles saw Rebecca Jennings victorious in 15.2s. Rebecca then went on take a silver medal in the 100m running 13.3s.

Jack Milnthorpe had a busy two days in the Under 17 men’s age group, picking up two gold medals and two silver medals. He cleared an impressive 1.80m to take the High Jump title and then leapt 11.91m to win the Triple Jump. His two silver medals came in the 400m Hurdles, where he ran 66.6s and the 100m Hurdles with 15.7s. Also in this age group Sol Deller produced a personal best leap of 6.13m to take the Long Jump title by a massive 50 centimetres.
