Mannings seniors make most of local knowledge

Local knowledge proved useful for Mannings Heath’s senior golfers in a 5-0 defeat of local rivals Slinfold in the CLAWS Winter League.

Skipper John Wills and partner Mike Dimon led the way with a 2&1 victory over Frank Catlow and Don Peacock, and was ably backed up by the pairings of Paul Holmes and Dave Cocker, Mike Hart and Mike Carrick, Peter Ireland and Keith Etheridge and Gerry Woods and Robin Brown.

Having already lost to Slinfold in October it was a result Heath needed to stay in the title hunt. With four fixtures still to play they now lie in third place, a point behind Slinfold and two behind new leaders Wildwood who beat Leatherhead 3½ – 1½ in the latest round of matches.

Meanwhile, Mannings’ Ladies were also in action, on the Kingfisher course with just four clubs and a putter. Scoring was surprisingly good in the heavy conditions particularly in the Silver Division where Sandra Roberts with 24 points only pipped Sam Barnes and Gilly Ewers by a shot. Joyce Watson led the Bronze competitors with 23 points, five clear of nearest challengers Carole Bauckham and Margaret Edwards.
