'You cannot defend like that and win football matches' - Boss John Yems unimpressed by Crawley Town defending in Barrow defeat

Crawley Town manager John Yems admitted that it was ‘unacceptable the way his team defended’ following the Reds’ 3-2 loss away at Barrow in League Two today.

Tom Davies put the hosts ahead in the tenth minute before George Francomb levelled after 31 minutes.

Scott Quigley's spot kick on 36 minutes looked like it would seal the win for the Bluebirds.

But Jack Powell's goal six minutes from time looked to steal a hard-fought point for the Reds.

However Charlie Taylor netted in the sixth minute of second half stoppage time to snatch victory for Barrow.

Speaking to the club's website, Yems rued refereeing decisions, but made no excuses for his team's defending.

He said: "(It’s) tough when we come to these places. I get accused of referees and officiating and all that, but something’s got to be done. You can't say too much.

"That doesn’t stop us defending badly, but my life. I’ve seen some rubbish in my time but that really takes the biscuit today.

"But, once again, everyone will be saying ‘well here he is, moaning about referees again' but you’ve got to come here and feel it.

"They don’t realise half these people what they’re doing to you but with all that’s said and done you can’t defend the way we defended.

"That’s one game we lost, in I don’t know how many, against a side who’ve got the three points and good luck to them.

"It’s a good little club up here and they’re good people. Did they deserve it? Because when you pick up the paper tomorrow its 3-2 to them.

"Nobody’s bothered with the way we defended which is unacceptable, and so unlike us the way we’ve been. But there we go, onto the next one.

"I keep saying it, you cannot defend like that. You cannot defend like that and win football matches."
