VIDEO: Charman - Zawadski ‘beast’ and set-piece defending cost us the game

Horsham manager Gary Charman blamed his side’s defending from a corner and goalkeeper Mark Zawadski’s decision to dribble his way out from the penalty area as the reasons they lost 2-0 to Hythe Town on Tuesday night.

He revealed; “It was a set-piece and a goalkeeping error that cost us the game.

“It’s three games in a row where we haven’t been that bad but haven’t scored and we’ve lost all three games.

“Differences have got to be made and there’s no doubt we’ve got to change this around ‘cos it’s not happening.

“Mark Zawadski’s a fantastic goalkeeper - he’s really, really comfortable with his feet I could play him in midfield he’s so good.

“He just had a beast - and he’s the first to hold his hands up - he had a really, really poor game. He made some bad decisions in the first half which he got away with and obviously the second goal is not what I want to see. It came against the run of play as well because at the time we were on top and it’s really deflated us.”

Charman also criticised his central defenders for not picking up Lee Pleau in the area from a corner kick for going behind just before half-time.

He moaned: “The first goal - you can work on that week-in, week out. If someone won’t do their job, you can’t do anything. I’ve always said as a centre half, you just make sure your person doesn’t score. If everyone does their job, they don’t score.

“It’s not difficult, but someone didn’t do their job and that’s why we went 1-0 down.”
