That’s two rounds Murphy’s team have come through following their 2-0 win at K Sports in the extra prelimiary round.

Steyning are at home to Sheppey United in the first qualifying round next Tuesday. Murphy was pleased but admitted they were a little fortunate – and said it was important they carried their winning form into the league.

Steyning lost their first two games in the SCFL premier division, beaten 3-0 at AFC Uckfield and 1-0 at home to Saltdean.

After the cup win, Murphy spoke to our ‘Sussex In The FA Cup’ columnist Colin Bowman, who you can follow at @sussexinthefacup on Twitter. Murphy said: “It was tough game. We knew a little bit about them and it was nothing we didn’t expect.

“We changed shape to give us something in the first half but they matched us up.

“After 20 minutes we were 2-0 up but they had the rest of the game.

“We ran out of ideas on how to stop the ball coming forward, I admit that.

“We defended quite well but they had enough chances to win two games. It’s exciting times but we have to get out act together in the league.”
