As the league seeks to complete all fixtures by early May, the first and second halves counted as separate games.

Herons were the eventual victors, winning by the odd goal, with the first half a goalless draw.

After three months with no football, and having had just one training session, the players were almost starting afresh, as they got used to the football and the requirements of their positions.

It was a tight game, dominated by the defences, with chances for both teams at a premium.

Tim Clifford, Jack Dann and Will Anderson were a tight defensive unit for Atletico in the first half, with Aaron Woodhams, Luca Harris and Evan Gulliver combining well to create some chances.

Joshua Bellamy worked hard as the striker, although chances were hard to come by.

Woodhams and Anderson had long range opportunities saved and Harris was almost brilliant with an attempt at a scissor kick from a corner, which had it come off, would have been goal of the season.

Atletico rang the changes had half time to ensure everyone got some game time and the match continued to follow the same pattern.

Anderson, was industrious, in a new midfield position alongside Henry Dinsdale, with Josh Davidson imperious in defence.

Goalkeeper Theo Botevyle performed well throughout the game, with some fine saves.

Fin Ledingham was strong and pacy as left back, bringing the ball forward and creating a number of chances for striker Romario Moratalla.

Herons scored the game’s single goal as Atletico struggled to clear their lines and despite Atletico pressures in the final few minutes, they were able to hold on for the victory.

Manager Ricardo Moratalla said: “I was delighted to be back out on the football field.

"Our players have missed the football and their team-mates and it has been great to see them having fun.

"The team played well and I’m proud of every one of them.

"We always have good games against Herons, and it was fantastic to re-start our season against them today.”
