Roffey Robins Atletico under-12s beaten in tight contest

The game was tight and competitive, with Cougars winning courtesy of three goals scored quickly, midway through the second half.

Cougars started on the front foot, although Atletico came into the game and began to dominate.

There was a lot of movement from defence with Jack Dann, Josh Davidson and Fin Ledingham distributing the ball well.

Luca Harris and Will Anderson in midfield were in control of the centre of the pitch as they pushed the game forward and created chances for Joshua Bellamy.

Aaron Woodhams displayed his creativity on the left wing although the Cougars defence were equal to everything that Atletico could throw at them.

Anderson had two good efforts, including a snap shot with his weaker left foot, Bellamy had a couple of chances well saved, and Woodhams drove the ball hard against the crossbar on what looked like the final chance of the first half.

However, that was not to be. Cougars won the ball after it came off the bar and ran through Atletico with some slick passing.

The striker slipped the ball past goalkeeper Theo Botevyle and was heading into the net before defender Ledingham slid in from nowhere to clear the ball off the line.

Atletico made a number of changes in the second half and controlled possession in the early part of the half.

Davidson, Josh Gibson and Henry Dinsdale combined well to create opportunities and striker Romario Moratalla was a constant threat with his pace and aggression.

Keeper Botevyle, who made a number of fine saves, came close with a chance of his own, with a long clearance being caught by the wind, deceiving his opposite number and just passed the wrong side of the post.

Midway through the second half Cougars picked up on a loose ball and scored their first goal, which was quickly followed up by two more as their pace caused problems for the Atletico defence.

Manager, Ricardo Moratalla said: "I’m pleased with how we played today. After three months without football, we need to work on both our fitness and ball skills and I know that this will come, having seen how the team responded when football came back last summer.

"The team played well today, with some neat interplay and tough tackling.

"The players have a real desire to do well, and that will serve us well throughout the rest of this season and into next."
