Roffey looking up with biggest win of season

Roffey’s resurgence continued on Saturday with a big victory over strugglers Ifield.

Goals from Gareth Standing, Michael Spence, Chris Dumbrill, Ben Bissett and Sam Matthews sealed a biggest win of the season before Steve Martin pulled scored late for the visitors.

Roffey boss Dan Redman said: “For 35 minutes of the first half we played some really good football and deserved our half time lead. We said before half this was a big game for us because it’s pushed us up the league, away from Ifield and two or three others below uswe are still to play.”

Gareth Standing’s determination was rewarded with the opening goal after 14 minutes.

Michael Spence scored a second when he surged up from right back and was picked out by Dumbrill’s cross from the left.

That made it 2-0 at the break, and Dumbrill got in on the act ten minutes into the second half with a good left-footed strike from outside the box.

It was 4-0 soon after, the impressive Bissett with an unstoppable shot from 25 yards which gave the keeper no chance. “Everything came through Ben in midfield really, him and James Hancock have really settled,” Redman said.

Bissett unselfishly teed up Matthews to wrap it up, although Ifield did have the last say when Martin netted one of a number of late chances.

“It’s been a bit hit and miss with the weather but that’s three unbeaten in the league now,” Redman added.
